Competition Season

This is the team (22 6-8 year olds) waiting to perform at the Eastern Idaho Dance Showcase in Shelley! Savannah is in a red hat between a girl with a blue umbrella and a girl with a green umbrella. This was not a competition just for fun!

Well we decided to switch dance studios in the fall and we made a terrific decision. The studio we now dance with has competition teams in Savannah's age group in jazz and hip hop. Savannah has taken ballet since she was 3 but has never taken jazz or hip hop, but we decided to let her audition anyway. Long story short she made the team! She was so excited! Well competition season started in February and will finish up the first weekend in May there are 4 competitions total.

We just go back from Burley this weekend from the third competition. So here's the update!

The first competition was in Idaho Falls and the results were great!

Kung Fu (jazz piece) placed 1st in their division.

Jump Up (hip hop piece) placed 1st in their division.

The second competition was in Ogden their scoring system is rated on a gold, high silver, silver etc. on down the line and then the team with highest points in each division took 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc.

The third competition was in Burley this past weekend and here are the results!

They ranked the dances out of 4 stars and then also ranked them by top ten in each division (at this competition her division was just by age group not by type of dance - it included up to the 10 year olds they combined Novice and Beginner and mixed all styles of dance for the ranking - these were the top scorers of the whole division) - wow that was kind of confusing! Hopefully I made it make sense!

Kung Fu received 4 stars and placed 2nd in the top 10

Jump up received 4 stars and placed 1st in the top 10

Kung Fu also received the award "command performance" for the division which was based on choreography, artistry, costuming and performance.

And Jump Up was the overall high score!

So basically Savannah's team placed first and second in the whole ranking the two top spots! They did so great! Woo Hoo!!

It has been a busy project! But we are loving the experience and watching Savannah's progress! She loves dance and loves to perform! The competitions have been so much fun and have been a terrific experience! We have got to stay in hotels and just made a whole weekend of it! Audrey loves it too! Grace is not so sure about the long days but she does pretty good! She loves the hotel part! As you can see this is what has been keeping us busy this winter! We have one competition to go - Logan in May! I am going to take better pictures this time!

Kung Fu - in Shelley it's to that music you know "Everybody was Kung Fu fighting, those kids were fast as lightning In fact it was a little bit fright'ning . . . " You know the one right! I love this dance it is so dang cute!! Anyway here is a pic of Kung Fu! Savannah is in the back row tallest one - second in from the end!

This was after she preformed Kung Fu at half time at a college basketball game - she couldn't believe she was in the mini dome!! Sorry no pictures of the performance Larren videotaped it instead and I was holding Jonas the team did fantastic and Savannah was impressed with the whole thing! It was a cool experience!
